DAY 1

Depart London Heathrow for Colombo, Sri Lanka.

DAYS 2 & 3

You will be met at the airport and transferred to the St Lachlan - a simple and comfortable boutique property in Negombo with a swimming pool where you will stay for two nights on a bed and breakfast basis. Stay two nights to recover from the flight and explore this vibrant fishing town. Spend time on the beach or exploring the markets and myriad of small streets and lanes.

DAYS 4, 5 & 6

Your fully-qualified, English speaking chauffeur-guide will meet you at St Lachlan with his modern minivan. He will stay with you until you are dropped off at the airport at the end of your trip. From Negombo you will head to Sigiriya, in the heart of the 'Cultural Triangle'. Stay at the Kassapa Lions Rock - an excellent mid-range hotel perfectly located for exploring the local sights. Included in your three days here are guided visits to Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Dambulla cave temples and Polonnaruwa as well as an afternoon safari in Minneriya National Park and an elephant back ride in Habarana.

DAYS 7 & 8

Head south towards Kandy, visiting the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens en-route. Stay two nights at the Serendib Stone Cottage on the outskirts of the city.

DAYS 9 & 10

Head into the tea-covered mountains to the charming Kelburne Estate Cottages. Mind-blowing views from your breakfast table - a cosy cottage to yourselves and lovely friendly staff. What's there not to like? Not super luxurious by any means, but comfortable and well looked after nonetheless and you just cannot beat the location! On your second day take a hike to Lipton's Seat which, on a clear day, affords one of the best views in the country.

DAYS 11 & 12

From Haputale take a scenic train ride to Ella, where your driver will meet you. Drive out of the southern climbs of the hills to the fertile plains of the Deep South. Stay at the Hibiscus Garden Hotel - your base for a thrilling afternoon safari in Yala National Park.

DAYS 13, 14 & 15

From Yala head along the south coast to the fabulous beach and bay at Unawatuna, 5 mins from historical Galle. Stay at the charming Thambapanni Retreat and enjoy your time as you please. The beach is one of the best in Sri Lanka and the range of little cafes and restaurants makes it great for socialising with other families.

DAY 16

Heading up to Colombo for your last night, staying at the Galle Face Regency Hotel. Time for some fine dining, shopping and city exploration.

Your driver will drop you at the airport for your return flight to London.
