Amaya Hills,
Kandy
Sri Lanka, Kandy & Hill Country
Info : Amaya Hills
Formerly known as Le Kandyan, Amaya Hills is the best of Kandys large tourist hotels.
Its position high above Kandy offers unparalleled views of the city and the surrounding hills.
The entrance is a spectacular structure, framing the view of the city and the hills beyond. The hotel is decorated with soft, earthy hues and traditional Sri Lankan colours. The local Kandyan theme, which could be painful, is actually tastefully and attractively done, with the staff in traditional costumes. The architecture reflects interesting elements of Kandys unique heritage.
Although the hotel is large, with over 100 rooms, there is a good sense of space and it has a quietly intimate feel. The pool is good and the communal areas well designed and attractive, particularly the bar. The new deluxe rooms have been given a wooden finish, though all the rooms are a good size, well appointed and very comfortable.
Officially a four star, it offers all the facilities you could need as a tourist and the food is excellent and thoughtfully done with good local and foreign dishes.
Kandy itself is a fascinating city allow at least two nights to fully take in the Peradiniya Botanical Gardens, the Udawatakelle forest Reserve, the Temple of the Tooth and the busy streets, overlaid with the architecture of different eras.
Rating
Comfort - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, whether it is character, service or excellent facilities.
