A bold and adventurous project, Back Of Beyond Dehi Gaha Ela is a magical 4 'room' property and is one of the most unique and magical places to stay in Sri Lanka.

Located in the heart of a large swath of jungle wilderness near Sigirya, the property consists of two Tree House Villas and two Boulder Cottages, spread around a central lake and surrounded by lush forest.

The Boulder Cottages are, as the name suggests, built around large rocks and overhanging tress in a split-level design. Wooden flooring, open walls and enticing cement bathrooms with hot water make for a creation that perfectly marries old and new technologies.

The main Tree House bedroom is another real work of art. A lush bathroom complete with trees is located at ground level. A wooden staircase then propels you onto the top level, where an open plan veranda with sweeping views and simple seating greets you. A double bed sits at the rear, with a spectacular view through the V-shaped section of the mature tree trunk. Sleeping here is memorable experience and, as the entire room sways gently with the breeze, you are aware that the room itself is alive and part of the forest.

The second Treehouse Villa is only suitable more adventurous types. Raised higher above the ground and more minimal in design and is definitely only for those with a head for heights.

The property has a charming lounge and dining area overlooking the lake where delicious Sri Lankan meals are served. A short walk will also take you a shaded river with mini falls and bathing spots - a truly seductive location.

The short drive from Sigiriya is a bit rough, along village roads and freshly cleared tracks. However, all the sights of the cultural triangle remain in easy reach, just be sure to leave enough to time to relax and appreciate the beauty and remoteness of Dehi Gaha Ela, one of our favourite properties in the entire country. That said, the property is highly remote and isolated and only suited to the adventurous. Those seeking a similar experience in a less remote location will want to have a look at Back Of Beyond Kurulu Uyana.
