Formerly known as The Triton Hotel, this large resort style hotel is another Geoffrey Bawa designed gem on Sri Lanka's south west coast. It is located in Ahungalla, a small fishing hamlet just north of Ambalangoda, between Galle and Bentota.

A recent refurbishment has restored the hotel to its former elegance and we think it is an excellent choice for a beach stay. The beach here is large and fairly private, while the facilities are brilliant.

The Bawa signature style is in evidence here - the spectacular location is used to very clever effect, particularly the magnificent entrance with its view directly through the hotel to the sea beyond.

Styled as a 5* resort, we would suggest that a 4* rating might be more appropriate, but with those expectations in mind it is a great choice for families and couples alike.

Deluxe - Deluxe hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A deluxe hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
