A recent renovation has vastly improved the hotel and ensured it will remain a favourite with families and visitors looking for a central base from which to explore the area.

While the rooms are not huge, they are well appointed and comfortable. Children will love the huge pool, which has magnificent views of the rock.

Staying in Sigiriya itself means travelling time is cut down due to the proximity to Sigiriya and the relative closeness of the other major sites at Polonaruwa and Anuradhapura.

This is a deeply rural area and as such short walks from here can be fun and very interesting. The hotel organises nature walks in the surrounding area.

The food is standard international fare of a reasonable quality as well as buffets featuring Sri Lankan food. There is evening entertainment of a similar nature in the evenings and a pleasant jovial atmosphere.

The hotel has a superb reputation for environmental innovation. This was confirmed when Hotel Sigiriya won the 'Responsible Tourism Awards' for 'Best Large Accommodation' at the 2008 Virgin Responsible Tourism Awards in London. To win this worldwide award is an absolutely outstanding achievement.
