The Kani Lanka is a quality mid-range hotel in Kalutara, a one hour drive from Colombo.

The Kani Lanka offers some of the best value hotel accommodation on the west coast. Constructed at the tip if the large stretch of land separating Kalutara's river and beach, the resort's 105 rooms are all contemporary in design and come with all the amenities you would expect from a modern hotel. Air conditioned, with tv & dvd, tea & coffee making facilities and balconies which look out to the sea or inland across the river, the rooms are bright and spacious. The bathrooms are finished in a classic modern style, with glass panelled showers and polished cement surfaces. The hotel also has five luxurious suite rooms. There are two large, functional swimming pools which face the beach side of the grounds and also a quality tennis court. There are two restaurants inside the main body of the hotel. Breakfast and lunches are buffet style, to a very high standard. The main restaurant is located on the ground floor and serves a varied menu in the evenings. There are also a number of outdoor dining areas. The hotel is sold on a half board basis as there are not so many alternatives within immediate reach of the grounds. Separate bar lounges, furnished with comfy modern cushioned chairs and settees, are more appropriate for the evenings.

The grounds themselves are large, spacious and serenely quiet. One can see the hustle and bustle on the other side of the lagoon, Kalutara's distinctive and sacred Dagoba visible on the horizon, but feel only the tranquillity of the beach and well kept hotel gardens. The beach itself is long and quiet - good for swimming all year round.

With a location as good as this, the hotel maximises the potential of watersports. Sailing, windsurfing and canoeing are favorites of the staff, who have been trained with a touch of the Maldivian hospitality ethic to compliment the hospitality that comes naturally to Sri Lankans. The spa is also excellent - run by experienced Maldivian staff. There are four massage suites and a selection of wonderfully relaxing plunge pools and jacuzzis and also outdoor tubs. There is also a tranquil relaxation area facing across the lagoon where guests can unwind before and after treatments.

The Kani Lanka is one of the best value resort style hotels on Sri Lanka's west coast. Excellent service and facilities, combined with a beautiful location and first class spa, result in a superb modern hotel at very reasonable prices. The range of activities and facilities on offer make it ideal for families although the relaxing ambiance means that couples would feel just as at home here. Aside from the top hotels, very few are actually worthy of recommendation - the Kani Lanka is definitely one of them.

Comfort - This is what we would describe as our standard category. These will be decent 3/4* hotels providing a really good level of service. We would generally expect them to be providing a little something extra, whether it is character, service or excellent facilities.
