A Sri Lanka institution, The Mount Lavinia Hotel used to be the Governors mansion and it is said a Governor General fell in love with a local dancing girl and the building is a lasting remnant to their love. Certainly, this is a hotel full of character, from the uniformed footmen to the views of the Colombo beach frontage.

The Mount Lavinia hotel has seen better days, but its positioning on the headland is magnificent and the views from many of the rooms are superb. The Colonial furnishings are pleasant, though some rooms can be slightly on the damp side and noise travels easily throughout the hotel.

The popularity of the hotel for local weddings means that it is rarely short of character and spectacle and some guests really enjoy this.

The food is excellent with the head Chef; Publis, famed throughout Sri Lanka as a master of the art of Sri Lankan cuisine. He runs wonderful cooking courses so you can learn to cook this under-appreciated and distinctive Sri Lankan cuisine.

A further significant advantage is the private beach that hotel guests enjoy, allowing recuperation after the effects of a days shopping in Colombo! The beachside sea-food restaurant is also excellent.
