Unpretentious is the best way to describe the laid back charm of this small resort in sleepy Marawila.

If you are looking for chic beachside luxury this is not the place, but for a first or last couple of nights by the beach it is in an excellent location, about 45 minutes from the airport.

The beach is excellent here with none of the attendant hassle you get in nearby Negombo. Palm trees line the garden and the pool is pleasant and spacious. The rooms are simple but clean and comfortable with AC. All the rooms have fridges and hot water. There is an excellent swimming pool between the main building and the beach.

The food is simple and the service is friendly, if somewhat slow and idiosyncratic. Positioned as it is, up the coast road, Marawila is on route from the airport to the cultural triangle or the eco resorts in the Puttalam district further to the north.

Value - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin – provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels, but in areas where there is little choice or if it is a very good place, it may be what would generally be described in Asia as a 'guesthouse'.
