This hotel is spaciously laid out on large grounds, cunningly designed to reflect the shape and character of a traditional Sri Lankan village. The 120 individual cottages are divided into sections, each representing a different facet of village life the temple, the stream and the paddy field. A fourth cluster represents Sigiriya.

The walkways and the saffron colours of the Temple Cluster work particularly well, while the use of the woven boxes as decor in the Paddy Field Cluster, is attractive as well as being interesting and informative.

The beautiful gardens were designed by one of Sri Lankas premier landscape designers, the late Bevis Bawa. The wonderful trees, around which the hotel and gardens were designed are a particular feature and add a sense of privacy.

The hotel has a great pool with a view of Sigiriya is a great family hotel even if the service is somewhat idiosyncratic.

Besides the obvious cultural and natural excursions in the Cultural Triangle area, the hotel offers a good range of activities itself. Tennis and Badminton, Birding and Trekking are all available. There is an Ayurvedic Centre and a fantastic organic farm that guests can wonder freely around.
