Just outside of Colombo yet as far away from the city as you could feel - The Hideaway lies in five acres of lush plantation land. A short hop from Colombo or the airport, this hidden gem is perfect for the first or last nights on a tour.
The colonial period villa has been lovingly restored with an elegant, modern, aesthetic. Beautiful antiques share the space with modern iron furniture and cosy sofas. The three bedrooms are sumptuously fitted out, with lovely outdoor bathrooms and Jacuzzis. One of the rooms has even been converted into a lovely little bar, with creative, subtle lighting and an equally creative selection to of drinks to chose from.
Adjacent to the villa is the games room and small gym - if you really feel like working out while you're here. There is a small billiards table here as well as plenty of excursions in the local area. Most guests won't make it out of the villa though. The swimming pool is pleasant too.
Walks can be taken around the plantation and staff will be happy to point out all the different fruits and vegetables and the various methods of cultivation. Pineapples are the main crop here and as a result the juices are some of the finest to be served at any hotel!
The friendly staff will take good care of you at the Hideaway - preparing fresh produce from the garden and plantation.
You are encouraged to treat the place as if it is your own. The food is excellent and the menu varied - many locally produced items are served. The lounge has a good entertainment system and a large library of music and DVDs.
Rating
Deluxe - Deluxe hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A deluxe hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
