Info : The Palace
Mirissa is perhaps the prettiest bay in Sri Lanka and The Palace, situated on the headland, has the perfect view.
The resort consists of a series of pleasant cabanas, well spaced out amongst the tropical vegetation. The air-conditioned bungalows are comfortable and the facilities include 24 hour room service, satellite tvs and mini bars. The views comes for freeâ¦
There is a communal bar and restaurant which has a friendly feel and serves decent Sri Lankan curries and western food too. However, the hotel only offers half board so we strongly advise you to treat it as if it were 'bed and breakfast' and feel free to to eat at the quality little beach side restaurants locally in the evening and not to feel tied to the hotel restaurant. The fresh water swimming pool is great and the beach is a two minute walk.
Aside from having a great beach, Mirissa is also home to Mirissa Water Sports, the pioneers of whale and dolphin watching off the coast at Dondra Head between the months of December and April when the sea is calm. There are some beautiful and deserted little beaches nearby, waiting to be discovered and Mirissa has several laid back beach restaurants too.
Rating
Value - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin – provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels, but in areas where there is little choice or if it is a very good place, it may be what would generally be described in Asia as a 'guesthouse'.

Mirissa Palace - you are right the beach was glorious and we could actually go in the sea here which is not possible in other regions so we loved that. The beach bars were great and we wished we could have eaten a meal in the evening there as the fish looked fantastic but as we had bed breakfast and eve meal at the hotel we didn't do this. There was a bit of a feeling of lack of interest in providing the little extras... but all the same we still loved it here as the views across the sea from the pool were lovely and the beach was walkable.
