Nestled amongst working tea plantations near Ella, The Planters Bungalow offers private and charming accommodation in picturesque surroundings.

The Planters Bungalow consists of two individual houses which can be rented separately; The Planters Bungalow and the Planters Cottage.

The property was originally constructed in the late 19th century by a Scottish tea planter called Malcolm George. The house has been fitted with all modern facilities since those days and each room has its own bathroom and private terrace. Authentic hill-country food as well as international cuisine can be provided and served on the east facing veranda.

The Cottage is built on the site of the old stables. It has a comfortable double bedroom with a four poster bed and modern sprung mattress. Its private terrace includes a dining area and a small summer kitchen fitted with a fridge and cooking facilities. The Cottage patio area adjoins the main garden where further sitting, sun bathing and picnic areas are located. An adjacent modern bathroom has all facilities.

Breakfast is included in the room rate. Lunch and dinner can also be provided - there is a daily changing menu.

There are a number of great walks possible from within the grounds and this part of the country offers many breath-taking views. Ella itself is flanked by spectacular waterfalls and further trails. Horton Plains National Park can be visited in a day trip, as can the interesting hill country towns of Bandarawela, Badulla and Haputale.

The Planters Bungalow is simple, homely and welcoming and provides a great option on the southern slopes of the mountains.

Value - This is our lead in category. There will generally be a no frills approach and while some will be characterful, some will do exactly what it says on the tin – provide a clean, comfortable and good value place to spend the night. These places are normally 3* hotels, but in areas where there is little choice or if it is a very good place, it may be what would generally be described in Asia as a 'guesthouse'.
