There are wildlife spotting opportunities for everybody, whether you want an afternoon exploring a national park from the back of a jeep, rising early for a trek to the view point in Horton Plains Park as Samba deer amble through the mist, or spending a few nights camping out by the river in the middle of one of the many national parks.

Sri Lanka is also an excellent destination for the twitchers among us. As the UK descends into winter, migrating birds from all over the world flock to Sri Lanka, with vast numbers of Greater Flamingos, Cormorants and other waders congregating on the waters of Bundala National Park. All year round the convergence of different climatic zones, mean the variety and colour of the birdlife is intoxicating – even to those with only a very passing enjoyment.
