Located between the stunning Rekawa beaches and lagoon, Buckingham Place is one of the most unique, quirky and comfortable beach hotels in Sri Lanka.

Owner and manager Nick Buckhingham has worked tirelessly to create this magical retreat, where every element of the guest experience has been carefully planned and considered.

Accommodation is in eleven bright and spacious Rooms and Suites. Perched overlooking the lagoon, these offer fine views and secluded outdoor seating areas. All are air-conditioned and include amenities such as indoor and outdoor bathrooms, air-conditioning and fridges. The interiors are designed in an open plan style, with light pastel colours lending a calm and relaxing atmosphere. All the rooms are unique with slightly different styles, features and layouts, although all essentially provide the same experience. Suites and Rooms are the same size but the suites each have something to differentiate them from the rooms - a particularly good view, outdoor bathtub or an extra bedroom.

The food is worthy of special mention here, with meticulously high standards at very reasonable prices. The menu changes seasonally and is always worth exploring. Superb service is found throughout the hotel. There is a small swimming pool close to the restaurant. Each room comes with bikes and kayaks for guests to explore the village and lagoon respectively.

The stunning and secluded beach is a 5 minute walk from the main entrance. Rekawa is famous for its Turtles and in season (February - July) it is possible to watch these majestic creatures laying their eggs right beneath the hotel.

Buckhingham Place would appeal to people of all ages, although it is not recommended for those with young children. The rates charged are extremely good value for the high level of accommodation, cuisine and all-round experience offered. The off-the-beaten-track location provides a taste of real Sri Lankan life in one of the most beautiful parts of the country.

The hotel gets rave feedback and with its charismatic owner lending a fun angle with anecdotal tales if life in Sri Lanka it is not hard to see why Buckinham Place entices many guests to return.

Deluxe - Deluxe hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A deluxe hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.
