The Galle Face enjoys the finest position in Colombo, facing the sea and the expanse of seaside promenade known as the Galle Face Green. Like an aging aristocrat, The Galle Face has an air of faded grandeur: the cocktails are still served on the beautiful veranda as the sun sets, by courteous old world waiters.
The suites are surely some of the largest in the world, with fine antique furniture, but the carpets are somewhat faded and the beds have fallen below the modern 5 star standard. Nonetheless this is an an experience unmatched anywhere in the world. The sea facing standard rooms are very pleasant, though the service and finish is somewhat idiosyncratic.
