Kahanda-kanda/srilanka

Description : Kahanda Kanda

To stay at Kahanda Kanda is to be invited to share a private vision of the perfect tropical villa.

Built in 2000 as a private villa, it is now run as a boutique hotel, which can be booked by the room. There are 7 spacious and private suites individual and beautiful.

The central living area is an airy peaceful space and like everywhere in the villa a glorious place to sit and relax with views of the surrounding 12 acre tea estate. On each side of the Living Pavilion are lily ponds, over which you step to reach the Dining Pavilion.

Beyond the Dining Pavilion is the infinity edged pool, 20 metres in length and looking cool and inviting, with its dark green polished cement sides. Beside the pool is a recessed area, shaded by white bougainvillea, where breakfast or dinner may be taken.

The Peacock Suite is the master suite and as such is a little more expensive than the others. Sensational views over the lakes, a private courtyard and an ebony four poster in the centre of the large room, make this suite pretty special. The other suites are all spacious, cool and stylishly furnished too. Hellaconia is a gorgeous double bedroom suite, in a peaceful garden setting with two outdoor showers, giving guests privacy and space a premium in todays world! Dubu is an old Javanese Joglo house, with timbered walls, and an ornately carved ceiling. It is extremely spacious, and has two bathrooms, both with showers/bath tubs, and its own private swimming pool. Auraylia is set in amongst the tea estate, with a wide veranda from where guests can watch the vast array of birdlife that we see regularly here at KK. The suite has a double four-poster bed, a spacious en-suite bathroom and wonderful views over the tea and surrounding jungle.

The food is locally sourced fresh produce and is described as fusion cuisine. Meals are served as and when you feel like it and lunches are two courses while dinners are a luxurious 3 course affair.

Deluxe - Deluxe hotels would have a superb level of service, very comfortable and usually spacious bedrooms, excellent food, great design and character. For us, when we visited, these places all had the 'wow factor'. A deluxe hotel should satisfy the criteria of the most discerning clients.

Guest Comments for Kahanda Kanda

We also thought our last four days at KK were a lovely way to end the holiday. We appreciated George Cooper's personal attention and had some great chats with him. The staff were also great and we had fun with Henry, the Major-Domo, who went to great lengths to ensure we had all that we desired in the drink and food line.

As for the hotels, they are among our favorites after decades of travel. George at KK and Anthony at Rangala were great hosts. In fact, many of our fondest memories will be of getting to know them, as well as their expat friends from the surrounding area (George included us in a Christmas dinner party at KK, and Anthony did the same for New Year's Eve at his). KK and Rangala are very different types of places. KK is quite swish, but also very tastefully done, with great food and all the rest. For people who can afford it, it is very easy to recommend. Rangala is more basic, and I would thus suspect that the average couple that demands KK-style comforts might be put off by Rangala. However, for some like us with bipolar tastes, it was the perfect combination of places to stay, giving us two distinct and equally special holidays in one. Plus, Rangala's location is somewhat unique, and it is thankfully a bit outside of Kandy. The walks in the area were great. And Anthony was arguably the best host we have had at any hotel, anywhere.
