Kalu's Hideaway is the jungle retreat of Sri Lankan world cup winning cricketer Romesh Kaluwitharana. Bordering Uda Walawe National Park, its the ideal place to stay when going on safari.
A modern and compact resort of seven large bedrooms, Kalu's is well equipped with a great swimming pool, outdoor bar and breezy terrace restaurant.
The rooms themselves have polished cement floors, two double beds and modern bathrooms. Five of the rooms are in the main building and there are two chalet rooms in a separate construction.
Satellite television and dvd players can be found in each room but you are likely to spend most of your time outside in the pool, jacuzzi and assorted thatched 'summer huts' or on the volleyball court.
The restaurant serves a variety of Sri Lankan and western dishes whilst the bar has a good assortment of beers and cocktails. The staff also organise frequent bbq dinners.
Most people use Kalus Hideaway as a base for exploring Uda Walawe and its large elephant population but there are a range of other excursions in the area. Trips to visit hot springs, guided nature walks, bird watching and cycling can all be arranged at short notice via the helpful staff.
Kalus Hideaway is the next best thing to the luxury camping offered inside the park and the design of the property ensures you have a wild experience here, surrounded by nature and Sri Lanka's great outdoors.
