Waking up in Yala National Park is an experience of a lifetime. With the sun beginning to peek out over the lake and dense scrubland beyond the camp, the birds starting to sing the and the deer playing in the distance, all feels right and proper with the world.
Kulu Safari understand that to appreciate Yala National Park, it is important to relax into the park - to feel the immensity and the sheer diversity of the fauna, to see for oneself the unique landscape that the park offers and appreciate the wonderful birdlife.
Yala is not a walk in a park: it is an uninhabited, wild experience where wildlife is not laid on for our viewing pleasure. It is a place that rewards the calm and patient and Kulu Safari make this possible.
With modified Land Cruiser safari vehicles and safari tents imported from South Africa, the equipment is top class. The absolute key to the experience are the guides who are hugely knowledgeable; vastly more so on the whole than those who take the day excursions. The atmosphere is laid back and friendly. The ingenious mobile kitchen allows guests to enjoy well cooked meals as the sun sets over the park in the evening.
The tents are excellently equipped with comfortable camp beds, more space than the average hotel room, hangers and drawers for clothes and a washbasin. There are hot and cold showers and a comfortable and clever toilet system.
Yala is an excellent place for spotting leopards - elephants are also common and even the elusive solth bear is sometimes seen as well as a whole world of Wildlife on your doorstep. With a camping safari there is no rush and you'll enjoy the morning and evening safari drives as well as various lovely excursions. All this, coupled with the full inclusion of your entrance fees, food and drink, make the two day safari, excellent value.
Sitting in the sea, watching two eagles battle for territory was one of the more memorable experiences I have had in Sri Lanka and one that would not have been possible were it not for Kulu Safaris wonderful approach to Sri Lanka's incredible wildlife opportunities.

Eco/Outdoors/Homestay - This category covers gorgeous eco lodges in the jungle, comfortable safari camps, very basic homestays and dreamy, but simple, beach cabanas. These places defy conventional categorisation: what is communing with nature to one person may be terrifying bugs to another! Many of these places are very comfortable and the service generally of a very high level – but a guest staying at any place in this categorisation must read the website review carefully and/or talk to us and be sure to have understood what they are letting themselves in for!

Camping in Uda Walawe was a fantastic experience and we were exceptionally well looked after by Kulu Safaris. A definite must for any visitor! I don't think we'll ever get our kids to do 'normal' camping again!

the safari was fab although they went more western with their suppers which actually was fine after 2 weeks of curries and I think Mike needed a little break from curry!
